XWSS Challenge

Post by wwei23 »

I remember seeing FattyLife and another rule with OWSSes a few years ago, and I thought to myself: "How many XWSSes can one rule support at once?"
This rule has the LWSS, the MWSS, the HWSS, the 3-OWSS, the 5-OWSS, the 6-OWSS, the 7-OWSS, and the 8-OWSS. I couldn't find a way to support the 4-OWSS without breaking compatibility with the LWSS and the MWSS though (It's called the XWSS challenge and not the OWSS challenge because the LWSS, MWSS, and the HWSS still count, too.).

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 109, rule = B3aji4nqty5enr6i/S2-an3-ky4n5e
2bo2bo$6bo$2bo3bo$3b4o5$4bo$2bo3bo$7bo$2bo4bo$3b5o6$4b2o$2bo4bo$8bo$

o$2bo$4bo$2b3o!
Can you do better? Puffers count too.
Bonus points if you can support the UWSS, although it'll have to be diagonal.
EDIT: Alternate stabilization for 3-OWSS allows me to make this rule for LWSS through 7-OWSS:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 86, rule = B3aijky4knrtw5nr6ain/S2eik3-cy4irt5q

Currently seeing if longer XWSSes in B3aij4nt5nr6i/S2-ac34inrtz make interesting stuff.
Edit 1:Lots of unstable XWSSes turn out to turn into MWSSes! A few examples are:8WSS, 10WSS, 12WSS, and 23WSS. Edit 8:Any XWSS longer than length 37 evolves into the 9WSS, so it would be 9WSS
Any explanations if why the period of the spaceships always increases?

Edit 2: Could there be another XWSS lurking around in the sea of *WSSes? Edit 6:Probably no. Edit 7:No

Edit 3:The 30WSS is the smallest Edit 10: and the only OWSS that doesn't evolve into a different OWSS.

Edit 4:Someone should make a search program that picks a random number between 30 and say, 2000 and then see if it makes any interesting results because I feel like I'm tired of this XWSS recording business. Now I'm at 33WSS. Edit 9: Don't do that

Another possibility, the weighted neighbourhood is a subset of "range-2 Moore":

Code: Select all

The overweight spaceship with a 3-cell “spark” works:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 5, rule = R2,C2,S163-294,585,B166,244-290,335,416-424,434-437,NW09010901090151515101095100510901515151010901090109

I would like to nominate my rule Haven for this challenge.

Sorry for the fact that it has been over a year since the last post was made.
My website (a database of Life objects, WIP).
GlidINT has been released!
Currently working on a forum system for my website.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 17, rule = B3-ry4acenqt5eir6-ek/S2-a3-a4nq5aeknr6-akHistory
