I have completed the search. There are exactly 33324724 results, and the raw data can be downloaded here*:

https://www.filehosting.org/file/detail ... results.7z

*Warning: This file is huge. It's over 100 MB compressed and over 400 MB uncompressed.

Here is my code and input file:
LP031-1-dfs.js
(5.18 KiB) Downloaded 51 times
dfsconfig.txt
(4.55 KiB) Downloaded 45 times
To read the data, break it into 13-character blocks. Then, read it out as base81 with this matrix (standard reading order):

Code: Select all

  012345678
  ---------
0|012345678
1|9abcdefgh
2|ijklmnopq
3|rstuvwxyz
4|ABCDEFGHI
5|JKLMNOPQR
6|STUVWXYZ+
7|/~!@#$%^&
8|*(){}[]<>
You will get 50 trits, corresponding to 50 different transitions. 0 means off, 1 means on, and 2 means either is fine. The 50 corresponding transitions are (also in standard reading order):

Code: Select all

B2i B2n B3c B3e B3k B3y B4a B4e B4n B4q
B4r B4t B5a B5c B5i B5j B5n B6a B6c S2a
S2e S2i S3a S3e S3i S3j S3k S3r S3y S4a
S4e S4i S4j S4k S4q S4r S4t S4w S4y S4z
S5a S5c S5i S5j S5n S5q S5r S5y S6a S6c
I really hope there isn't a bug in the code.

EDIT: Removed random code tag that shouldn't be there.

The first 13 characters were:

Code: Select all

80>8>SS+*]>>>
0022 0000 2222 0022 2222 2000 2000 2022 2200 2220 2222 2222 2222
I'm not sure which two trits are extraneous, but if it's the former I got just the minrule up to B24-cjrt5-ekr6ac/S2cn3aknqy4-cjknw5-ek6ac. Was the purpose of this search to find a 3-cell spaceship, or a 3-cell frontend with two blank rows?

EDIT: This should give the search space pB2acek4ikwyz-cjrt5qy-ekr6-eikn/S2cn-aeik3nq-ceir4-cjknw5-ek6-eikn; it checks out for leaving the second row empty.

Code: Select all

#C [[ STOP 31 ]]
x = 2, y = 3, rule = B24-cjrt5-ekr6ac/S2cn3aknqy4-cjknw5-ek6ac
o$bo$bo!
I'm too busy at the moment to test whether there is a p31 spaceship here, or possibly a period that is a higher multiple of 31, or even to expand the other 33M+ rulespaces. Now what?

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B3-q4z5y/S234k5j

1. There are certain parts of the rulespace with unconditional explosion. We can remove those. One example is A2i3c. For each rulespace:

If it starts with 000x0xxx..., then we can delete it.

If it starts with 000x2xxx..., we can make that 000x1xxx.

If it starts with 002x0xxx..., we can make that 001x0xxx.

The thing is, I honestly expected there to be well less than 100 results, since the first row only had three solutions. We can try running the program on some of the rulespaces to get a third row and so on, but if there is no P31 photon, we're going to be here for a long time.

I only have negative results this time (assuming that I didn't mess up any input files, and that I remembered correctly). Notes: Purple columns are P1 unless otherwise specified. Blue columns are forced to have a certain subperiod, and red columns are allowed to take on the full period.

1. 37c/37: I tried searching so that the right red column was P37, but there were no results. This told me that that column was always blank, so I also tried searching so that the right red column was blank and the left red column was P37, but there were also no results.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 7, rule = B/S012345678Super
2D$2DHG$2D2G$2D2H$2DGH$2DGH$2D!
2. 44c/44: I tried searching this 4xn space for a spaceship where the blue column had one live cell in it, flipped every 2 generations, and where the spaceship itself flipped every 22 generations. No results.

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 11, rule = B/S012345678Super
2.D$.D4.4DJ2H$5D.4DJGH$.D4.4DJGH$2.D3.4DJ2H2$2.D$.D4.3DJ3H$5D.3DJHGH$
.D4.3DJHGH$2.D3.3DJ3H!
I have NOT searched this yet.

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 5, rule = B/S012345678Super
2.D$.D4.3D2J2H$5D.3D2JGH$.D4.3D2JGH$2.D3.3D2J2H!
3. 48c/48: I tried searching this 4xn space for a spaceship where the blue columns had one live cell total, flipped every 8 generations, and where the spaceship itself flipped every 24 generations. There is not even a solution for the blue columns.

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 5, rule = B/S012345678Super
2.D$.D4.3D2J2H$5D.3D2JGH$.D4.3D2JGH$2.D3.3D2J2H!
4. 54c/54: I tried searching this 4xn (EDIT: I mean 4x8) space for a spaceship satisfying the following:

Criterion 1: The purple columns flip every 3 generations.
Criterion 2: The spaceship flips every 27 generations.
Criterion 3: The blue column is blank every 9 generations.
Criterion 4: The blue column is not blank on generation 3. (This means that the purple and blue columns together flip every 9 generations)

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 5, rule = B/S012345678Super
2.D$.D5.9DJGH$6D.9DJHG$.D5.9DJHG$2.D4.9DJ2H!
No results.

Edit 2: I also searched 39c/39 in a 5x11 box, where the blue row is P13, and got no results.

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 5, rule = B/S012345678Super
8DJ2H$8DJ2H$8DJGH$8DJHG$8DJHG!
Edit 3: I ruled out the pattern I mentioned for the 44c/44, but I also found a flaw in my original input file that will require a rerun of that search.
Edit 4: Ruled it out for real this time.

After correcting the rulespace to pB2acek4ikwyz-jrt5qy-kr6-k78/S2cn-aeik3nq-ceir4-jknw5678 by adding the 18 irrelevant transitions B4c5e6ein7ce8/S4c5ek6eikn7ce8, I may be able to tell you the result of EnumPattEvo by the end of the day. Note that I'm actually searching for any spaceship that evolves from o$bo$bo! and completes a period within 100 generations, so a resulting spaceship might periods 62 and 93 are also up for grabs as well. Unless, of course, you can make the search more efficient with your JS script.

I don't know how to run JavaScript; do you have an equivalent Python script? Otherwise, I may try compiling it in NetBeans.

Download from https://nodejs.org/. The relevant command is "node filename.js". That code is the filtration code I used to remove some exploding results.
EDIT: Ruled out that 39c/39 search via a symmetry argument.

And hte useless dissimilarity of the excessive amount of oscillators in this rule:

I think the p31 photon analyses in EPE will need to be crowdsourced or ru on the cloud. Just the first rulespace in the datafile is taking a lot longer than expected.

I had a similar idea for reducing the time needed to search the remaining 3-cell patterns through generation 6, since many of these searches are also taking weeks. We would split up the search space into a number of branches that can be resonably run in a few hours, and then run each branch separately on someone's CPU/GPU.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B3-q4z5y/S234k5j

I'm currently running a program to filter out rulespaces with forced explosion.

Ampere had posted a very interesting rule in The Lounge,and I looked at a close relative of the rule and found this.
It is a predecessor of a 6803c/403840 diagonal spaceship. During the cycle, it is also a failed (590,218)c/15187 puffer, as well as a couple other displacements due to commonly forming at the edge of collapsing diamonds.

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = B2e3aij4acjr5-cery6aci78/S1c2ace3knr4acek5-a6-ci78

I think this breaks some record but I haven't done much INT stuff lately.

I feel there may be some millionaire spaceships awaiting in the neighbourhood of these rules.
