.rule extension not allowed

Post by Extrementhusiast »

When I try to upload a .rule file, the website says that "the extension [.]rule is not allowed". Any plans on changing this?

Seems like a good idea to allow .rule as an allowable attachment type. On the other hand, there are definitely advantages to putting rules into code blocks so that they're easily readable and searchable (as long as they aren't above 50K -- that might be another conwaylife.com standard that's worth relaxing a little bit.) File > Open Clipboard creates a new rule very nicely -- probably easier than finding the right folder to drop an attached file into, anyway.

A .zip archive of a .rule file will also open directly in Golly, and copy the rule to the right location, with no need for a separate decompression step.

I have (finally) updated the board to allow .rule attachments on posts. .rle and .mc attachments are also now supported (though, as Dave mentioned, including the contents of these files directly in posts is preferable when it's reasonably to do so).
