Diagonal lightspeed telegraph

Post by CHUCK_NORRIS_AMA »

This pattern is based on Golly's 'lightspeed.rle', found in the 'Life/Miscellaneous' folder. It transmits information diagonally at light speed. It can accept one input glider every 690 generations along the same path as the one marked "INPUT".

It can definitely be optimized for space -- all the glider guns are in the same phase, but they could be squeezed closer together. I'm really hoping for an easy way to generate large waves of closely-spaced gliders.

Hey nice idea, but it's not a telegraph, in full sense. A telegraph can be elongated in the direction of a signal as much as you want and still transmit a signal. Your design will require elongation in the perpendicular direction to the signal traveling, making the design much less efficient and hard to use in other devices.
