People get the trusted flag when they ask to be trusted -- giving them the benefit of the doubt, basically. They get un-trusted if they make enough unwanted edits on the LifeWiki and don't respond well to requests to change their behavior.

I'd say there's no need to do anything when someone creates an account -- in particular, no need to make any posts here. If someone wants to start editing LifeWiki articles, they're pretty clearly directed to put a post here on this thread, so we can just wait for that to happen.

Side note: try checking the glider-producing switch engine pattern to see if it matches your find.
