This spark is obviously impossible to place, so I'm putting it here. If it actually worked, and the gliders actually escaped, it would be a p50 gun; look at generation 25.

Here is a seven-cell predecessor for an R-turner without its first blinker:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
o$b2o$bo3bo$3b2o!
There are two more seven-cell predecessors that are closely related.

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
o$b2o$bo2b2o$3bo!

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 4, rule = B3/S23

I wonder whether that's how the tub was first identified as a catalyst. I know that all pi-block collisions were searched fairly early on in the history of exploring ConwayLife.

An R-pentomino hitting a block in a certain way can serve as a preblock->claw component.

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 11, rule = B3/S23
o$3o$3bo$2b2o3$5bo$4b2o$5b2o$b2o$b2o!
This is useless because a two-glider component that does the same thing is already known.

Here's a c wave that is so simple It's probably already known. However, I couldn't find it on the Lifewiki so I'll put it here:

The R moves a beehive while turning into a B, possibly allowing for some sort of oscillator to arise.
