Interesting Accidental Rule

Post by Extrementhusiast »

I was trying out a particular family of rules that involved neighborhood mixing, and I found this:

Code: Select all

n_states:3
neighborhood:Moore
symmetries:rotate4reflect

var a={0,1,2}
var b={a}
var c={a}
var d={a}
var e={a}
var f={a}
var g={a}
var h={a}
var i={0,2}
var j={i}
var k={i}
var L={i}
var m={i}
var n={i}
var p={i}
var q={i}

# VonNeumann-birth
# b1
0,i,b,k,d,2,f,p,h,1
1,i,b,k,d,2,f,p,h,2

# b2
# 0,i,b,2,d,2,f,p,h,1
# 1,i,b,2,d,2,f,p,h,2
# 0,i,b,2,d,m,f,2,h,1
# 1,i,b,2,d,m,f,2,h,2

# b3
# 0,i,b,2,d,2,f,2,h,1
# 1,i,b,2,d,2,f,2,h,2

# b4
# 0,2,b,2,d,2,f,2,h,1
# 1,2,b,2,d,2,f,2,h,2

# Cross VonNeumann-birth
# b1
# 0,a,j,c,L,e,2,g,q,1
# 1,a,j,c,L,e,2,g,q,2

# b2
# 0,a,j,c,2,e,2,g,q,1
# 1,a,j,c,2,e,2,g,q,2
# 0,a,j,c,2,e,n,g,2,1
# 1,a,j,c,2,e,n,g,2,2

# b3
# 0,a,j,c,2,e,2,g,2,1
# 1,a,j,c,2,e,2,g,2,2

# b4
# 0,a,2,c,2,e,2,g,2,1
# 1,a,2,c,2,e,2,g,2,2

# VonNeumann-death
# d0
# 2,i,b,k,d,m,f,p,h,0

# d1
# 2,i,b,k,d,2,f,p,h,0

# d2
# 2,i,b,2,d,2,f,p,h,0
# 2,i,b,2,d,m,f,2,h,0

# d3
# 2,i,b,2,d,2,f,2,h,0

# d4
# 2,2,b,2,d,2,f,2,h,0

# Cross VonNeumann-death
# d0
2,a,j,c,L,e,n,g,q,0

# d1
2,a,j,c,L,e,2,g,q,0

# d2
# 2,a,j,c,2,e,2,g,q,0
# 2,a,j,c,2,e,n,g,2,0

# d3
# 2,a,j,c,2,e,2,g,2,0

# d4
# 2,a,2,c,2,e,2,g,2,0

# Else
1,a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,0
I then realized that "var i" should be {0,1}, not {0,2}. But this rule is more interesting that if I had gotten it right.

(Save this rule as nbhood02.table.)

A few ships (ridiculously easy to construct)

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 55, rule = nbhood02
.BA8$.BA$2.BA8$.BA$3.B$2.B6$.2A$.2BA7$2.BA$.BA$2.BA7$3.B$4.B$A.BA.B$.
2A.A.B$5.A.B$6.A.B$7.A.B$8.A.B$9.A.B$10.A.B$11.A.B$12.A.B$13.A!

Addendum: quadratic growth

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 9, rule = nbhood02
10.B.B$9.B.A.B$5B3.B.A.A$3A6.A3.A$.AB8.3A$11.3B$3.5B$3.5A6B$8.6A!
and the obvious linear growth pattern, which I'll still add to this

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 12, rule = nbhood02
6$9.3B$10.2A!
EDIT: Yeah, this is an old thread. But as I find stuff to post I'll edit this one and append.

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 13, rule = nbhood02
10A$10B11A$10.10BA$19.BA$7.A.B9.BA$8.A.B8.BA$9.A.B7.BA$10.A.B6.BA$11.
A7.BA$4A15.BA$4B15.BA$4.16BA$4.16A!
Cool wickstretcher sort of thing- more like a wick 'shooter'

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 9, rule = nbhood02
6B$B4AB$BA2.AB$BA2.AB$B5A4.2B3.2B$6B.B.BA.B.BA.B$6.A2.A.A2.A.A$5.13A$
3.15B!
and another one

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 9, rule = nbhood02
6.AB$5.AB$.5A.B$A5B.B$AB3.B.BA3B$AB3.B.B3AB$AB3.B.BA.AB$A5B.B3AB$.5A.

@Rhombic: If you're interested in neighborhood mixing, you might want to try your hand at making a gun in nbhood03, a real mixed neighborhood rule discussed in this thread. It has a replicator, so it should be easy, but as far as I know no one has ever tried.
