It has to be attached to some larger molecule at a carbon atom, but the actual group only consists of one sulfur atom and one hydrogen atom.
Yes, I realized that.

I wouldn't be concerned about it.
Good. So predators use glutathione to neutralize reactive oxygen species. What might prey do in response?

The prey would probably excrete more reactive oxygen species, evolve movement capabilities, and evolve some sort of defensive spike proteins.

The spike proteins would especially discourage engulfing. The predators might secrete some acid or some other corrosive substance to disintegrate them.

Yes, but I had previously forgotten that those creatures will probably have gotten used to acidity earlier.
Ok, good. Would they secrete it with vesicles or vacuoles or somwthing else? I also think this is enough adapting for now.

They would likely excrete it via vesicles.
Actually, would the creatures be used to sulfuric acid? They would have a lot of sulfate (and, to a lesser extent sulfite), but if they aren't electrically charged, then there would have to be a bunch of every hydrons as well.

How does sulfuric acid form naturally? Also, there is a substantial amount of isocyanic acid, but it wouldn't be nearly as acidic.

The creatures oxidize sulfur dioxide.
With the arrival of oxygen then there might be a slight increase in the amount of sulfuric acid (but not much because oxygen there wouldn't be too much that deep down).
