Is this three layers of hassling? We're hassling an R with unixes and a P42, which is itself a pulsar hassled by a P21, which is itself a honeyfarm hassler!

Additionally, a unix can be viewed as two blocks hassling a long barge.

The reaction looks bellaminizable, and there are probably catalysts which can clean up the junk. Also, for this conduit, the only possible period is 84 (since its two B42s)

That's part of it, but the amount of time for which the oscillator stays back is also important. For example, consider the reaction in which a domino spark turns a nephew of the century into a Herschel without its first natural glider.

I mean finding entirely new oscillators, not finding known ones that work with the reaction. It seems like the period would have to be unimaginably high...

Well, higher period generally would equal greater fallback in your case. It would be impossible to support the aforementioned century reaction with periods lower than about 10 (which is too high to directly search new oscillators for)
I might return someday. Don't count on it though.

Unfortunately, searching for high-period sparkers is much more difficult than searching for low-period oscillators. That's a shame because high-period oscillators tend to have better fallback.

Since then, I've realized the real strength of my P9 heavyweight emulator: Its fallback is far greater than its supporting sparker (It falls back at 3c for 2 generations straight, when the supporting sparker never falls back more than two cells). Even in the century reaction where it failed, the supporting sparker broke first.
