B2e3-cjk/S2-in3-r4c8

Post by HelicopterCat3 »

I don't know what to call this rule.
I like how Hunting formats his rule posts, but I haven't been able to prove if this rule has omni-periodicity, any gates or circuitry, or oscillators of any period other than 2, which is why I'm posting it to see if you people could help me find stuff.

This rule has quite a couple of naturally occurring spaceships:
2 c/3d's:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 12, rule = B2e3-cjk/S2-in3-r4c8
8b2o$7bo2bo$7bo$8bobo6$b2o$o2bo$bo!
And these closely related c/2o's

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 21, rule = B2e3-cjk/S2-in3-r4c8
bo8bo$obo6bobo$obo6bobo$2bo6bobo$2b2o4b2ob2o5$2bo8bo11bo$bobo6bobo9bob
o$bobo6bobo9bobo$bob2o5bobo8b2ob2o6$3bo6b2o$2bobo4bo2bo$2bobo4bo2bo!
Here are some ship collisions:

Code: Select all

x = 92, y = 17, rule = B2e3-cjk/S2-in3-r4c8
90b2o$49b2o39bo$50bo39bo$49b2o6b2o31b2o$57bo$57b2o$86b3o$86bobo4$18b2o
$18bo$18bo$2o16b2o$bo$2o!
There are a lot of spaceship generating reactions too which could probably be used in guns.
An example would be the Tub and how in this rule it generates 4 of this c/3d:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2e3-cjk/S2-in3-r4c8
bo$obo$bo!

To-Do List:
1.Name the rule and its patterns
2.Develop guns
3.Make gates and circuitry
4.Conduits
5.Find other speeds of spaceship
6.Find more oscillators with periods other than 2
7.Find a 2c/6 ship
8.Find a c/5 ship
9.Find another speed of diagonal ship other than c/3
10.Find a stable eater and reflector
(Red = Not Done, Green = Done, Blue = Almost Done)

Pattern Collection:

Thanks.

Really, omniperiodicity is something you put in your TODO list only when you are finitely many periods away (like having an easy stable reflector).

I'll run apgsearch and qfind for you relatively soon.

Much appreciated! Is apgsearch a script or program you run in golly? I know that it automatically soup searches and names objects, but where would I get it and apply it?

Nope, unless you want an old version.

I've reduced the stators in the pattern collection.
I don't know why this rule isn't apgsearch-able... It isn't exactly explosive, it's just really chaotic because of all of the ship-creating reactions that occur naturally. The ships created will collide with other objects and create more ships. They calm down eventually and don't keep going, so I think the rule has a chaotic nature.
I guess we'll have to do manual searches for this rule then..

It definitely is explosive. A sample of several soups from Golly tells me that most 16x16 don't explode (I couldn't find a single one, but they seem to sometimes), though even slightly larger almost always does. This is an example 16x16 that lasts very long:

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 16, rule = B2e3-cjk/S2-in3-r4c8

Ah that's why I didn't think that. I hadn't checked soups larger than 16x16. Well, this complicates things then.

Edit: Any soup larger than 50x50 will not stop exploding. If a larger soup were to be searched it would have to be a lower density

Yeah, I know what you mean.

1. There's almost certainly infinitely many spaceship speeds in this rule, probably in the form of some kind of transparent debris effect.
2. Even if it contains only a finite number of velocities, it would be impractical to find all of them. (New elementary velocities are still being discovered in CGoL.)
3. It would be totally impractical to tell if there actually are only a finite number of velocities.

So no, this is nowhere near started.

I didn't realize there might be infinitely many speeds in this rule like Life when I said this. Now that I really sit down and think about it, it wouldn't be very efficient to find all of them even if there are a finite number of them. You're absolutely correct.

Oh there's a tagalong? Well that makes it officially the first tagalong! Unless someone can prove me wrong which I welcome.
Also, sorry for not updating the collection, I thought I was subscribed to the topic but I haven't been getting notifications for some reason.

The first P4 Hunting found has alternating halves (by this I mean that each half looks like the other at different times throughout their period) which mean that if another P4 with the same edge of the rotor as that half, it could support it. Since when did glide symmetry include movement? Think about time-space diagram, it is glide symmetry along the time axis.
