The Near-Anagram Game

Post by MathAndCode »

I had fun at Word Chains, so I have decided to create a similar game here.
Each player must modify the letters of the previous word in one of three ways:
  • Adding one letter
  • Removing one letter
  • Replacing one letter with another
The player should then post a word using the new set of letters, preferably rearranged. For example, in response to steal, one could respond with (among other possibilities):
  • late (removing the s)
  • waste (replacing the l with a w)
  • salute (adding a u)
In order to encourage novelty, please try to use words with at least four letters (preferably with at least five), avoid using any words that have already been used recently, and rearrange the letters as much as possible each time. If you want, you can come up with a goal word that you're trying to get to—but don't tell anyone else what that word is.

The first word shall be signal.
I am tentatively considering myself back.

I assume that you meant assign. Please be careful with spelling in this thread because it matters here.
