Wisdom of crowd - help

Post by sirini »

Hi all,

I have a task which is part of a game we play which is based on GoL. in the game 2 teams playing on one board, each team on one side of it and need to "score" as many point into the opponent wall while not letting the opponent to score on your wall.
each generation of game you get 1 cell and the game lasts ~6000 generations.

I'm looking for help to find pattern that will "explode" into a specific direction and will contain minimum of cells. this way i will set such patterns on the board they will be heading for opponent wall and keep on expanding.
Also if someone can recommend on a way to block other team which will probably try the same method to hit my wall.

I appreciate your help!

Hi Moosy,

Thanks for the replay, i will check these options..

I made some research and i saw the Max and Halfmax which looks interesting as they are quite small and expand very much. would anyone know if i can take them and switch them to expand to a quarter of screen? (up & left or Up & Right or maybe even with a 45 degree angle)

Also i have seen the "Eaters" that can help for defense...

One thing that need attention is that the opponent will also have cell on the field so structure like spaceships can be very vulnerable as they can be hit very easily and wont work anymore...

Really appreciate any interest of helping!

Hi Moosy,

After more research i have found in your documents two interesting structures:
x = 3, y = 6, rule = B3-cqy4j/S2-n34i
2bo$bo$bo$obo$bo$bo!

which maybe can be a good defense?

And this one looks like a missile that leave protection dust:
x = 9, y = 4, rule = B3-cqy4j/S2-n34i
b3ob3o$o2bobo2bo$o2bobo2bo$b2o3b2o!

One other interesting thing i found was the "teeth" structure that maybe can help both on defense and offense.

will be happy to hear what do you think...

Thanks!

Please use RLE.

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 4, rule = B3-cqy4j/S2-n34i
b3ob3o$o2bobo2bo$o2bobo2bo$b2o3b2o

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 6, rule = B3-cqy4j/S2-n34i
2bo$bo$bo$obo$bo$bo
Not inactive any more! :D

Those are not in GoL so they are moot for a GoL-based game.

Here are a couple of patterns that might be useful.

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
3b2o$o4bo$bobobo$ob2o2$bob2o$b3o$2bo!

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 8, rule = B3/S23
bo2bo$2bob2o$2bo2bo$o2b3o2$bob2o$b3o$2bo!
I am tentatively considering myself back.

ah.... so they are not GoL? how can i know the difference?
Is there anything similar in GoL i can use? i liked the "Rocket leaving dust" structure which gave me advantage as quick hit strategy and leave cells as defense...

Check the rule = in the code; B3/S23 means GoL.

Try patterns based on the switch engine.
Also, if you don't need to place all of the cells at once, you can place a T-teromino (or a four-cell parent or grandparent), wait once generation to get the bullet heptomino, then place three more cells, thus getting a switch engine with only seven cells instead of eight.

I wonder what the minimum number of cells required for infinite growth is if not all of the cells have to be placed at the same time. It's at most eight.

Code: Select all

x=3, y=2, rule=B3S23
3o$bo!
#C [[ RLE dot o! ]]
#C [[ PASTET 1 ]]
#C [[ PASTE dot 0 -2 ]]
#C [[ PASTE dot -1 -2 ]]
#C [[ PASTE dot -2 -3 ]]
#C [[ PASTET 608 ]]
#C [[ PASTE dot 35 35 ]]
GPSEs would probably be more useful that BLSEs, but the other team would probably try to destroy the switch engine soon after its formation anyway.
I am tentatively considering myself back.
