The Thing (Game)

Post by BokaBB »

The Thing (original name in Serbian:Појам) is a game I created as younger based on some guessing games, but it was much more complex than these and I continued to play it up to this day.
The Thing is played with one Imaginator and at least one Guesser. The Imaginator comes up with one thing and other guess what it is as well. That should be something generic, like duck, pine, helium, octave, not some more specific like 2016 USA election, expect if that thing, place or person is widely known. Also, some poorly known chemical compound has no place in The Thing. Generally it is a guessing game with removed childish elements. Also,it can express everything.
After the Imaginator came up with something, everyone begins to attempt to discover what it is. If there is only one, only it guesses. However,if there are more, they do that alternately.
At the first the Category needs to be guessed.
Categories are the groupings of things around something.
Here are the some most common ones and their explanations:
Geography includes anything about physical geography, like the places around the world and various formations. (social geography and astronomy are taken as separate categories)
Biology includes any life forms and species and things related to them, like unprepared things they directly produce.
Cuisine includes any recipes and indegrients that do not belong specifically to Biology(gelatine, salt, sugar, floor, spice,as well as semi-products).
Music includes kinds of music, musical instruments and all things related to music.
Biography includes all more or less famous persons.
Trade includes things that can be bought or seen in the house.
Chemistry includes all elements and compounds.
Physics includes everything about physics.
Many categories overlap to a large degree, but they are mostly intelligible. More can be made if needed. However,we don't need one called Things made of glass since all its subjects already belong to Trade.
Some things are relevant in some places, but not in the others. While lesser-known mountain from some country can be relevant in it,it is not outside. The President of Uganda is also irrelevant outside Uganda since it is not well known unlike some European ones, for an example.
The best things to come up with in this game are some that are known to the most people, but about that most people don't think often and know just a bit.
After that, the players need to enter in the details to discover what exactly is that thing. The first to discover wins.
The players may ask for hints if nobody suceed in the revealing more.
They also can surrender.
After the discovery the Imaginator usually answers questions about that thing, but that is not needed, expect if it is not so well known and is not done in the competitive play.
The game is not childish at all despite the fact it was born from very childish ones.
Feel free to play The Thing here. I don't think the Imaginator have the reason to answer questions since it is not needed. Also, the alternate play is not needed here and is instead just forbidden to double-post.
Have a good day!

Intellectual Property ?

Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha !

What is THAT supposed to mean ?

Why should anyone pay me for an idea when they can steal it ?

Like Tony Stark and Obediah Stain -

How did you deal with the Icing Problem ?

But Tony Stark invented Cerebrus and only he could fix it -

switch the two middle letters and it becomes Cerberus -

the three-headed Hound from Hell !
I don't think this is fully the same game. I invented it very independently. I highly believe there are at least some differences between my and your game.

Just a quick side note:

The reporting system has been getting a little too much use lately -- in my opinion -- to make requests for moderators to move posts around. It's definitely something of a judgment call, but in many cases there's really no need for moderators to get involved.

Moderator time is a scarce resource, probably better used to fight spam and deal with actual misuse of the forums. For the most part, good-faith misunderstandings like the one in this thread can be better handled directly between the participants.

Before asking for a post to be moved or removed, ask yourself whether it would really be such a big deal if a post or two, and a maybe a polite response objecting to those posts, stayed right where it was. The people who created the posts can edit them if necessary (as otismo did in this case). Or if a post belongs somewhere else, it's okay to cross-post the information by quoting it in a different thread.

Replacing an incorrectly-placed post with the word "delete" will give the right idea, but again it's probably okay to leave it as it is, or add a link to the post in the new location. There's no need to get moderators involved for most of these situations.

i just feel as if this is a glorified guessing game, except the guessers are completely blind to what they have to guess. the forums aren't like a text-messaging app, which will make the game feel slow and sluggish. even if the category is guessed by chance, the category will be so indescribably broad to the point you need to give hints and clues in order for the guessers to get close to the answer. but anyway, i digress. this seems like a decent game anyway. also, could "weather" be it's own category?

anyway, i'll guess the "culinary" category
i is squishyboi, a professional dumbass hiding in the sandbox

get some icecream here - viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4666
also painfully relevant - super loaf

I don't think so.
You can easily make new category if you don't think any is suitable. Also, you can ask if the thing has some qualities and to ask about subcategories.
No,it is not Cuisine.
