Re: Thread for your script-related questions

Does anyone know a good way to filter nbsearch results? apgsearch stdin won't work, as there's only one "soup".

Is the voting going to start soon?
Nobody has made any nominations for a while, so if you want your pattern to be the OCA discovery of the year, you should do it now!

Here you go. It's almost September now, so I may as well start it.

How do you face the fact that land shape appears from local or nearby character system?
That is absolutely not bias.

Explain how this pattern resembles the Chinese character "日" (Sun, pronounced rì ) turning into a shape resembling Sri Lanka near India?

Re: Simple Ruletables

Found this "complexity" measure from an old post by apg.
apg wrote: August 1st, 2010, 1:22 pm Complexity of Wave CA = (ln(12)/ln(2))*(12^9) ~ 1.85 * 10^10 bits
Complexity of vNCA = (ln(29)/ln(2))*(29^5) ~ 9.96 * 10^7 bits
It seems to be:

Code: Select all

Complexity = l(n(n_states)/ln(2))*(n_states * neighborhood_size)

Even after all these years, I still don't know what is categorized as an "Interesting" rule by the general community. I also recently tried rulegolfing a rule with engineering potential:

Re: The AROSICA project: A Real OS In CA

For this project, if we want something like that in CGoL, we may need an approach like Quest for Tetris , but with multiple layers of abstraction.
A potential first step is to emulate Bliptile , which is not much more complicated than 2-state OT rules. Doing so already gives us a huge advantage ...

For every finite Game of Life pattern with n live cells, the next generation contains at most 3n−6 live cells.

I don't have a mathematical proof for this; I just know that a straight line with n cells (n > 2) has a population of 3n-6 in the next generation, and that looks pretty optimal. Has work ...
