Might there also be a solution that incorporates S0? I feel like the p22 ALMOST work with that transition

Yes. hotdogPi put together a newer version ( oscillators.rle ), but it didn't make it into Golly 5.0.

We're also thinking about continuing to adjust Golly's base pattern ...

Period-510 glider gun reduced from 43x40 (1720-cell BB) to 42x40 (1680-cell BB) with an even thinner period-3 sparker that reduces the effective height from 7 cells to 6 cells:

I wrote some more tricky hacks for LLSSS to be able to search for ships that share only a single phase. Performance is perhaps not so great, but I was able to extend the results here. Barring bugs I believe I have shown there are no ships shared between B3/S23 and B35/S23 for c/2, c/3, or 2c/4 ...
