Most messy puffers stabilize fairly quickly.
However, linepuffer ( https://conwaylife.com/wiki/Line_puffer ) seems to take exponentially long with it's width. Too bad it can't expand as it goes.
In order to have an aperiodic pattern you need a growing feedback loop.
