I see the problem, but I don't see the solution. The lookup table you've given only maps F through Bx to arbitrary numbers 0 through 7. That doesn't seem like an improvement, since it doesn't give any help in explaining what that H-to-S example is supposed to map to -- apparently it isn't 0 or 7 ...
