Re: Oscillator Discussion Thread

Here is a list of traffic light and honey farm pushes from the same program I found the complete ones about a month ago, but these don't have a completion yet. They are sorted first by object type, then larger offset, then smaller offset, then number of generations.

If it's a honey farm, it will ...

Those match generations 48 and 98 in the viewer in reply #1, with the exception of the lower right corner.

The first of the two code blocks I posted in the first reply shifts toward the top left. Is that what you wanted?

I know it's difficult to parse the question above, but they're asking how to put an alternating rule into Golly. I believe it requires a ruletable, which I'm not familiar with myself.

Hopefully this won't 403, because for some inexplicable reason, trying to post this unzipped gives me a 403 error on both the forum and the wiki.

Re: Methuselah into Infinite system

The chance of a switch engine (block-laying or glider-producing) is about 1 in 2 million for a 16×16 pattern. 256 choose 3 is 2.8 million, so if you start with something that's 16×16 and run a script to toggle all possibilities of 3 cells, you'll have a decent chance (not guaranteed though) to find ...

This is equivalent to a pi-heptomino hitting a blinker. There are two blinkers in the pattern you posted, but it evolves identically with just one.

Based on your description, I believe "R2,C2,S3-4,B3-4,NW0000000000001110011100111" below matches it.

R2: range-2
C2: 2-state rule
S3-4: survival on 3-4 cells
B3-4: birth on 3-4 cells
NW00...: read the 0s and 1s as a 5×5 grid; the 1s correspond to a 3×3 subset and those are the neighbors that are ...

Merged into existing thread.

The second is possibly useful (generation 5 has 100 matches in octo3obj) but most likely known.

The first is a large enough scribble that it's definitely useless.

Example of the second pattern:

Suppressing a redirect means when you move a page you can choose to delete the old title rather than having it redirect to the new one.

That being said, I had no idea the group existed.

From what I understand, it's for letters in any language that evolve to rough shapes of countries or continents.

These are not notable within cellular automata.

By the way, since I merged them quickly, there were three threads here initially. You can tell by the post titles.

I've never seen it myself, but Catagolue says it forms this way, with a 9-cell predecessor:

Code: Select all
