I'm sorry, I'm unable to read the post on the link as I don't have the correct fonts installed.
I'm wondering where I went wrong in my testing then.
In my tests, LLS needed on average 250 seconds to calculate the predecessor of a 20x20 grid, and Lifesrc needed 410 seconds for a 19x19.
Sadly I ...

Re: Bringing Conway to Life
WLS and LLS are indeed capable of backsearch, but I did some small tests and it seems like it would take a long time for them to find the parent of a 64x64 grid.
My tool was capable of finding a parent in a matter of minutes.

Bringing Conway to Life
Hello everyone.
Lately I have been playing around with backwards Life algorithms, i.e. algorithms that search for a parent state instead of the child state.
I figured it would be fun to find parents of images, so I set on finding the parent state of John Horton Conway himself! (And thus, bringing ...

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Is there a way to be 100% sure that it is indeed a Garden of Eden and not just an error by me?
Wow, that is amazing!!! This 45-cell Garden of Eden was known to be the smallest one for 11 years:

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Hi all,
Today I was fiddling around with a Garden of Eden search script, and when inputting Garden_of_Eden_11 as a test, I accidentally removed the bottom row of cells.
Interestingly enough, this still resulted in a valid Garden according to my script.

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries
Hello everyone, I've been trying by getting into Life by messing around with some period two oscillators.
Does anyone with more experience know if the following are known?
It's nothing too impressive, but I'm just trying to warm up. :D
I couldn't find oscillators similar to this one.

Re: Oscillator Discussion Thread
Hello everyone,
Today I found this period 2 oscillator:
x = 10, y = 5, rule = Life
obo4bobo$2obo2bob2o$3b4o$2obo2bob2o$obo4bobo!
It is nothing impressive but it is the first oscillator I ever found.
I looked around for a bit and couldn't find it elsewhere, does anyone know if this exists yet ...
