Re: (Engineered) diehards

So, about that upper-left corner.

If we modify self-destruction procedure, we can eat more blocks from the second sawtooth with this contraption:

Re: (Engineered) diehards

Also, adopting linear approximation for real heights , that is:
a^^x = a^(a^^(x-1)) for x >= 1,
a^^x = a^x for 0 <= x < 1,
we can make some more precise bounds:

d > 121^17.406868871 (first sawtooth loaves)
v_0 = u_14 > 121^^15.595702598
j > 121^^16.595702598 (second sawtooth loaves)

Re: (Engineered) diehards

Right now, the NW section of the 10k cell diehard is wasted mostly on glider OTTs to delay a tiny bit of the time. Could we put a crabstrecher, add some delay mechanism, then have it burn a fuse, then make a glider which comes back and triggers the start. Or, maybe we can add a mechanism for the ...

I am looking for the source of the mwss back firing reaction and seems this is the first post containing it.
How was it discovered? It requires 11 blinkers ... and stabilisation...

In fact, the first post containing it is this one .
It's not exactly the same reaction, but it is the same ...

It's nice to see heavy Life engineering which closes the gap between theory and practice. Those tiny details when some unexpected interaction happens requiring rework, this optimisation work at various levels instead of plopping the first thing that works... Yeah.

And..... it's done!

Good job!
I wonder how this step would transform the signle-channel technology. A 0E0P rework incorporating this and other changes might yield Golly-runnable 0E0P cell.

Now it just has to be compiled with slmake to make the slow salvo and single-channel recipes.

And ...

I start thinking about the long moves during the construction and it seems to me one crab pulling tubs would be enough and other allocation could
be done by well synchronized glider colisions (at the start of the construction).

Re: 0E0P constructions

Do you plan to make it as HashLife-friendly as possible? In that case, the design should avoid antiparallel glider streams, including those between neighboring cells. One solution could be to separate cells far enough apart, with distance on the order of cell size. The other one could be to make odd ...

Re: Shrinking The 0E0P Metacell

My intuition says that subroutine-based 0E0P would be unnecessarily complicated. All that switching, recipe-retrieving and recipe-storing circuitry, etc that would itself need to be built.
If the design consists of only symmetric shell, (maybe symmetric) glider loop recipe storage, and a core ...

Re: Shrinking The 0E0P Metacell

As I see it, the 0E0P metacell would be more practical if we get rid of the recipe nucleus and just store the recipe in one loop at the boundary of the cell. That was not an option before, because fast crab-stretching technology has not been invented at the time of 0E0P construction. But now, with ...

tags.json is generated during the recipe ...

Re: "Signal circuitry" terminology

The gliders in the p43 Snark loop should not be described as "signals" in that article, since the p43 Snark loop is a simple oscillator.

At what point between (or including) "p43 Snark loop has no signals, as it's just an oscillator" and "Reverse caber-tosser has no signals, as it's just a 15 ...

Re: "Signal circuitry" terminology

If one really wants to see 'signals' in the pattern, then one could say that the pair of symmetrically positioned Herschels carries a single signal , which circulates through the pattern, carried sometimes by two Herschels, sometimes by two B-heptominoes, sometimes by two gliders, sometimes by a ...

Re: Dependent Reflector Terminology and Analysis

I would say that QuickSilver is not a dependent periodic reflector (it's obviously not periodic), but is a dependent stable reflector (it's locally-stable circuitry that puts constraint on what the input signals might be to allow it to continue functioning as a reflector). Maybe it's a good idea to ...

Re: Dependent Reflector Terminology and Analysis

In the p43 Snark loop, the local behaviour (around a single Snark) is indistinguishable from the local behaviour of some signal-processing circuitry involving Snark. So, we might as well call the gliders in a p43 Snark loop 'signals', as they are locally signals.
With dependent reflectors, things ...
