Re: What should be done to the Sandbox?

I have a proposed solution: what if we made another Discord server specifically for the kinds of off-topic games that used to exist in the sandbox?
What if we make a channel (forum channel) on the Conwaylife Discord for them?

Re: What should we do with off-topic threads?

Linguistics is not related to CA by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes but the community has a big overlap with the conlang community. That is what I meant by tenuously related.

As for polls... yeah I think polls don't make much sense in administrative decisions like this. You want consensus ...

Re: What should we do with off-topic threads?

An idea I have is to axe the Sandbox as is and split it into 2 more strictly regulated subforums.
1. CA Sandbox. Basically the current unproblematic Sandbox threads. User pattern threads, newbies messing around, etc. Posts have to be related to cellular automata, and if they are a game they should ...

Re: Which still-life patterns are noteworthy?

That one is definitely interesting imho.

A good way to define this might be is, what property does the still-life have to distinguish it from other still-lives? It can be a reaction from an engineering perspective or some quality of it from a mathematical perspective.

Re: Thread for your miscellaneous posts and discussions

Maybe also mention that new still-lives or p2 oscillators etc are not considered notable unless they do something unusual.

I'm interested in good ways to formulate more directly what it means in this case to "do something unusual".

For example, I do understand that catalyst s count (although ...

Other Math. The discord server has a channel like that. Maybe we should have that as a forum.

The "why" is that he is a fundamentalist Christian.

Also, I agree with Moosey that you have such a weird definition of rule 1.

I called Cole out because he made a statement that he knew better, when confronted by a forum moderator. Moose brought up evidence that he violated his own promise. And I ...

Re: Thread for your miscellaneous posts and discussions

I was there for most of the debacle.

The gist of it is that Cole made a Discord post which was a lengthy, incoherent rant where he accused queer people of being mentally ill, including Moosey, to her face. He got muted on the Conwaylife Lounge, and was able to talk in the channel for the muted ...

Currently working on a 4c/9. I will leave a search program running in the background all day, every day until I either hit something or I give up. I wonder what other completely empty speeds are there.

Also I'm back. I have been for a few months now but most of my activity was in the Discord.

So what rules can the 0E0P metacell simulate?
As far as I know, all MAP rules.

Now, my question.
If you were to make a GoL glider out of 0E0P metacells, what would be its speed and period?

Now, a very silly question.

By normal speed I meant the speed you get from running HashLife on an empty grid at 8^0. (Assuming an adequate computer).

Another silly question: how much time a meta-0E0P metacell (that is, a 0E0P made out of 0E0P cells) would take to replicate at 8^0?
