Re: Thread for basic questions
What does the "smarter scaling" option in Golly do? When you zoom out further than 1:1 the cells of the grid become smaller than the pixels of your screen, so each pixel corresponds to a square containing multiple cells. When smarter scaling is turned off then a pixel is coloured black if it ...

It can't just be large bounding box. Like long^5 barge has a large bounding box, but we've seen hundreds of them.

Re: Thread for advanced questions
In Day and Night, "blobs" tend to form, and they slowly shrink down.
My question is, why do they shrink, and not grow?
If you zoom in far into a very large blob, it's almost indistinguishable what's the "inside" and what's the "outside". Day and Night is self-complementary, so they basically are ...

Could a superstring be inserted in this waveguide by gliders? You definitely can. x = 101, y = 106, rule = B3/S23

Re: Can we substantiate this claim?
On Wire there's this claim about the zebra stripes wire: This wire must extend infinitely at the leading edge to avoid destruction, limiting its practical usefulness. Does this mean it's known impossible to get a signal out of the wire? Is the proof written down somewhere?

In dvgrn 's most recent NewLifeCA post he mentions that he will probably not write more posts soon, and that it would be better to use LifeWiki's 'In the news' section for updates. I'm wondering if it's possible for me to get an email when this section is updated?

Re: Logic Life Search
Hi hollowme, it looks like both of these issues are about how LLS treats the edge of the pattern. By default LLS adds a row of empty cells around the entire pattern, so that no cell outside the original bounding box can become live. However I see that your 235 cell pattern produces some additional ...

Re: Logic Life Search
Yeah, it considers two patterns distinct if they have different evolutions or different rules. I see how this isn't the behaviour you want in this case. I'll add it to the todo list, but LLS isn't my priority at the moment.
