Re: Returning to this site + Journal idea redux
If anyone is wondering how it would look, I've created a little demo here. I've taken random pages off the wiki for paper examples but of course, future papers would be formatted differently.

Re: Returning to this site + Journal idea redux
One reason I think using the WikiJournal template is the fact that it is without the academic "baggage" associated with the larger, more "professional" journals. Since it's all built off of wiki software, the same people who contribute to this wiki (LifeWiki, of course,) will be able to publish ...

Returning to this site + Journal idea redux
So, two years ago, I posted a thread here about forming a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to cellular automata. I made little to no progress :D Mainly due to the little interest I received when I first posted the thread. Since then, though, I've actually published a paper (albeit not peer-reviewed ...

Re: more precise definition of "field"
"Field" in this case has a meaning derived from the physics definition in which a value is associated to every point in space.calcyman wrote:A commutative ring in which every non-zero element has a multiplicative inverse?

more precise definition of "field"
I originally defined a "field" as any non-infinite lattice. However, as that is pretty vague, I've defined a more precise mathematical definition.
The set of fields for a cellular automata F = {N^n x S |0 < N < ∞}, where N is a non-infinite positive integer, n is the dimensionality of the cellular ...

Re: cellular automata journal: von Neumann
Naming a journal after some person is generally not a good idea; I suggest the name Space since cellular automata take place on a space of cells.
Technically, it's not a space mathematically. Also, don't you think a mathematics paper called "Space" would be a bit misleading?
I would vote ...

Re: How to assess how far a pattern is from randomness
Life is non-reversible. Unless the pattern was a Garden of Eden, it would be impossible.

cellular automata journal: von Neumann
I am looking to start and publish a journal on cellular automata. This would include patterns, new CA, new definitions, et cetera. It would be peer reviewed (by me and everyone else interested). I could probably program both a "newsletter" type system and a preprint server. A good name for it would ...

Re: how and when you discovered the game of life?
Yeah, sadly, I think it was a mix of Vsauce and reading about math on Wikipedia. I think I came to it from existential crises I have a lot, and I was researching determinism and...yeah.

All possible patterns for a field
( if there is anything wrong in these equations, please notify me! )
Let A (out of laziness) be the set of all possible patterns for a field F .
F = A field, some subset of ℤ^n, where n is the dimensionality of a CA
S = The set of states in a CA
A = ℙ(F x S)
For large fields, in which ...
